Last-Minute Decoration Ideas For Windows

Carolina Home Remodeling window replacement in Charlotte NC

With Thanksgiving now done, it’s time to revamp and get the Christmas decorations up. The Christmas tree is the first decoration to go for, but as you spruce up the mantle and hang the garlands, don’t forget to add some holiday sparkle to your windows. When it comes to decorating the exterior of the house, most people find themselves in a dilemma.

Decorating Windows for the Holidays

Windows are a creative solution to this dilemma as you and the passersby get to enjoy the window decorations. It also saves you the time and effort of hanging all those lights. You can easily create a holiday view with the following attractive window decorations.

Wreaths – Hanging a wreath in all your windows looks very cheerful. Use a store-bought wreath or one made of pine cuttings. To hang, take an outdoor ribbon and wrap it around the top of the wreath. Lower the top sash of the window a bit and close the ribbon in the window, suspending the wreath on the outside of the window. If the weather is often windy, staple a block of wood to the ribbon ends inside the house – no more picking up wreaths from the yard after a storm.

Create a Scene – Sometimes, the view outside the window might not feel like winter. You can create a winter scene. For example, perch a pair of redbirds on the window sash and surround them with fresh greenery. You can spice it up by adding a flurry of snowflakes floating above for a unique finishing touch.

Christmas Ornaments – Ornaments are just not for trees. You can instead tie them on a colorful ribbon and hang all your favorite ornaments in front of the window. Their beauty is enhanced by natural light.

Drape Beads – Drape strings of colorful beaded garland over your curtain rod and secure it with pins or tape. You can add some glass balls to the end of the garlands for a perfect, elegant finish.

Hang Stockings – Instead of having the stockings over the mantle, you can use suction cups to hang them in front of the window for a fresh appeal.

Decorate the Sill – You might prefer not to have items hanging in front of the windows. If that’s the case, decorate the window sill. Add different evergreen plants, figurines, pinecones, branches in vases or bottles, or a small Christmas tree.

Holiday decorations lift our spirits and get us in the mood for the holidays. Be creative and have fun decorating your home (and especially windows this year). Happy Holidays!
